LEAGUE FOOTBALL
WEST COAST CENTRE, The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby League Centre was held last evening present: Messrs W. S. Clarke (chairman), S. Thomas, Hunter, Walters, Buckley, H. Moore, Thomas, Masters, McDonagh, Kiely, W. L. Patterson, Hall, (delegates). The Kotukij Club wrote nominating a team for the third grade competition. The club -wrote asking for the transfer of S. Teague from the Brunner Club. The matter was referred to the Brunner Club, Kotuku Club also forwarded affiliation fee and notified that W. L. Patterson would represent it on the Centre.
A request was made that L. Morrissey, J. Morrissey and T. Bissel be transferred from Marist Club to Kotuku Club. The request was granted in the case of the first two, Bissel’s name being withdrawn by the Club’s delegate. The Secretary of the West Coast Cricket Association wrote asking the Centre to agree to opening the football season on April 1, and to closing on September 30. It was decided to Inform the Cricket Association that Labour Day week-end had always been recognised as the closing date for the League competitions. Arising put of a letter from the Marist Club regarding a fifth grade competition, and suggesting that the present schools’ grade be designated a sixth grade, it was decided to set up an Advisory Board to take €h.e lower grades under its jurisdiction The Secretary was instructed to write Canterbury and Auckland Leagues anent the constitution of such a board and it was also decided that all clubs be asked to nominate suitable persons to act thereon, the delegates to be asked to attend next Tuesday’s night’s meeting of the Centre. The same Club made a suggestion that selectors be appointed for the different grades. It was decided that the selection of all rep. teams from the 4th grade down be left to the Advisory Board, when formed. The Nelson Creek Club wrote asking for the transfer of Bennett, Simpson. and Butterworth from the Kotuku Club. The request was granted, subject to the approval of the Kotuku Club.
A letter was received from C. F. Saunders, on behalf of the Hornby Club, notifying that, owing to players not being available, the proposed trip to the Coast at Easter had been reluctantly cancelled. The Secretary of lhe Municipal Band wrote asking for representation from the League at the public meeting last evening’. It was decided to inform the Band that the letter arrived too late for the public meeting, but the League would co-operate in anything decided upon. Mr Patterson was appointed delegate to attend any further meetings in connection with the same.
In connection with the action of the third grade team in walking off the field at Dunollie last Sunday, it was decided to request three players to attend next meeting of the Centre It was decided that the game be replayed at a date to be decided upon by the Fixture Committee. C. P. O’Leary and C. Crooks were readmitted to the code for the Marist and Grey Clubs. E. Morrissey was reinstated as a junior for the Grey Club, and F. Moore for the Blackball Club. J., Cosgrove was granted a transfei' to Blackball, subject to the Brunner Club’s approval. Seventy-one players were registered for Runanga and Grey Clubs respectively. M. Hall R. Duggan, T. Freeman and E. Muncaster were reinstated as juniors, and J. O’Neil was reinstated as a third grader for the Runanga Club. WEEK-END FIXTURES. Runanga v. Blackball Juniors at Recreation Ground, Saturday, at 3 p.m., C. Hall. Marist v. Grey Juniors, Cobden, Sunday, at 3 p.m. Referee, Mr Fielding. Third Grade.—Marist v. Runanga, at Cobden, on Sunday, at 1.30 p.m., Mr W. Ryan ; Blackball v. Grey at Recreation Ground, Saturday, at 1.30 p.m.. Mr Armstrong.
INANGAHUA CENTRE. (Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Inangahua Rugby League Centre was held last week-end, a full attendance of delegates being present. Satisfactory reports of last year’s doing were presented. The election of officers resulted Patron, Mr T. Flannigan; president, Mr A. G. McAlpine; vicepresidents, Messrs Monteith- Chamberlain, Magee, Costello, Kennerley, Mahon, McVicar, Northy, Chisnail, Anisey, Coghlan, Austin, Conway and Lowden ; secretary. J. McElwee ; treasurer, F. McCaffrey; finance committee : Messrs Burley , McCaffrey, McElwee ; emergency committee : McCaffrey, Burley, -J. Byrne. Selectors. — After a good deal of discussion it was resolved to appoint one only, Mr A. G. McAlpine being appointed. Strong exception was taken to the Reefton Jockey Club’s proposed leasing of the club’s football grov.nd to the Inangahua Rugby Union and the Secretary’s letter to the jockey Club on the matter was unanimously ordered to be forwarded.
It was resolved to play an A and B match at Mawheraiti this week-end and to notify the Jockey Club of the Centre’s non-requirement of the ■ground on April 17; to accept the Grey Centre’s offer of a match on May 14, and to offer the gate on a 6040 per cent basis, and to ask the Buller Centre if they would allow Inangahua on the 30th Inst, at Westport the same percentage of gate money. Mr D. Monteith was thanked for his guinea donation, .also Mr Kennerley for his offered first aid services. Last Sunday’s League match Town v. Country eventuated in favourable weather, and after a good battle resulted in a win for Country by 35 to 30. During the game Austin McElwee jnet with a peculiar mishap. In fending all. the pressure of the fend cafne on the points of the lingers, resulting in the flesh at the butt of one finger fearing away, necessitating two stitches. INTERNATIONAL BOARD. (Australian & N.Z. Cable > LONDON, April 11. At Manchester- the Rugby League Council, at a meeting agreed unanimously to the sub committee’s proposal for ' the formation of an Imperial Rugby League Board, consisting of three members nominated by the League, one by New Zealand and one bv Australia. . 'it was also agreed that the York-
shire and Lancashire unions should cease to function in their present form, so as to enable the government of the game in England to be brought directly under the control of the League Council. A special meeting of the clubs is Being held on April 27 to.consider the adoption of the foregoing.
