DISTRICT MATCHES. (Notes by “Slip”). Last week’s representative game between Hokitika and Greymouth drew a large crowd to the Recreation Ground. The spectators were treated to a sparkling display of batting by Nightingale. Mclntosh, Thompson and Barlow, the last-named beirig right back to his best form. The game was w’on before such good batsmen as Wa'rnes, Knapp, Casey and Barlow went to the crease, otherwise the score would have been much larger. On March 5 and 6. the Buller team will be playing here and patrons of the great summer sport will see another good game. The Coast team' is undoubtedly ri strong combination, and in future will have to look for opponents from stronger associations. The new competition for the senior grade will start this week-end. the first match is between United B and Cobden at the Grey Rec. A collection will be taken up to assist the Association in the guarantee to Buller (£2O). The country division are having a tussle for premiership, Wriiuta, kokiri, and Blackball A all being in the runring. The winner of this dvision will play off for the Wingham Shield with the winner of the Town division, for which United, Cobden and Kumara are leading. If United juniors can beat or draw with Cobden this week they will be the Town winners. The future of cricket never looked brighter than at the present time, all clubs having several young- players' who will be promoted to senior next year. If players such as Bayley, Baldwin. Eggletori, Matthews, Rodgers Gibson, Barbara put their mind on the game, they’ will be future reps. There is still a chance of getting the Nelson eleven to visit us this season. It will be just wjiat our reps, want. Most of our men think that they are unbeatable.
