DANGEROUS SPEED. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 5. “The proper course is to take them off the road, but I realise in this instance that it would deprive the man of his livelihood,” said Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., at the Police Court, when imposing a fine of £2O and costs £5 on Oswald Norman Thomas, for driving a car at a speed dangerous to the public. The prosecution was the result of a collision near Eltham, when Thomas’s car in passing a line of traffic, swerved across the road, struck a pole and overturned. The overturned car was then struck by another car. PASSENGER KILLED. TAURANGA, December 4. A motor car, driven by Leslie Allan Cooper, employed at the Borough Council’s hydro electric works at McLaren’s Falls, containing also Mrs. Cooper and her two children and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Odium, of Waikino, overturned on the Waihi Road, about nine miles from Tauranga, about 3 o’clock this afternoon. Mr. .Odium was picked up dead, and Mrs. Odium was seriously injured, having a fracturd skull, a broken leg and internal injuries. She now lies in a critical condition at Tauranga Hospital. The others are unhurt. LIGHTS BLENHEIM, Dec. 6. A motor accident occurred late last evening on Picton-Grovetown Road. A car driven by K. Patchett crashed into a post. The driver was dazzled by the lights of an oncoming car. W. Satherley was wounded in the back by glass from the shattered windscreen, and taken to the hospital where an operation was found to be necessary. The other occupants escaped with a shaking. PAROA CYCLIST HURT A young man, named Arthur Holt, son of the licensee of the Paroa Hotel, when returning home on Saturday. evening, ran his motor cycle over a - bank. He was taken to the Grey Hospital by Mr. H. Hahn where an X-ray examination showed that his injuries,' fortunately, were not serious. COLLISION NEAR KARORO Hahn’s motor bus, which was proceeding to Karoro about 10.20 on Saturday evening was run into by a motor car being driven by Mr. Martin Elliott, of Rutherglen, near the Grey Hospital. The car, which contained five persons was proceeding southwards, while Hahn’s bus was coming to Greymouth. As a result of the impact, the car was disabled and had to be left on the roadside, its front axle being bent, and the right front wheel smashed. The bus had its side dented and a wheel axle damaged but was able to continue its journey homewards. None of the Occupants of the bus-or car was injured.
