HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.. (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, Nov. 27. The Hokitika Borough Council met at 7.30 p.m. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs H. M. Coulson, W. Jeffries, Jas. King, J.' Lloyd, A. R. Elcock, G. Heinz, H. T. Parry and S. F. Orr. ' Before proceeding with the business'the Mayor made reference to the illness of the Town Clerk (Mr A. Andrewes). A resolution was passed expressing the sympathy of the Council and wishes for a speedy recovery. A resolution of sympathy with Cr King was also passed, he having recently suffered bereavement in the death of a sister. An application was received from E. W. Heenan, on behalf of Peerless Pictures, for the use of the Town Hall as a picture hall. The Councillors generally were in favour of leasing the hall and finally Crs Lloyd, Elcock and the Chairman of the Finance Committee were constitued a sub-committee to draw up conditions for the leasing of the hall. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co., Christchurch, reported that 230 sheep, one lamb and one vealer were forwarded to Hokitika during the month. P. F. O’Brien wrote applying for access to his section at the corner of Davie and Stafford streets. The matter was referred to the Public Works Committee to attend to. . G. Appleton applied for access to his property in Livingstone Street. — Resolved that the Public Works Committee be authorised to expend up to £lO. F. Andrews wrote asking for drain in Fitzherbert Street be continued to enable his section to be drained. —Resolved that 6in. pipes be continued along Fitzherbert Street to enable the applicant to connect up. It was resolved that Cr Jeffries be appointed treasurer pro tern. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote giving particulars of the coming visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Hokitika.—lt was decided to seek the co-operation of the other local bodies in the arrangements to receive the Royal Party and other matters connected therewith. The Acting Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £l9B 13s 3d; payments £658 15s 8d; credit balance £673 13s; Cr. Loan Account £lBl 9s lOd. Accounts amounting to £BOB Is 3d were passed for payment. The Overseer’s report traversed work done during the month, and stated there has been an average of ten feet of water “in the reservoir. The Abattoirs Manager (Mr J. Jarman) reported animals slaughtered during the month: 9 cows, 29 heifers, 73 bullocks, 102 sheep, 4 lambs, 11 pigs, 2 calves; fees £54 12s 6d; sam pigs, 2 calves: fees £54 12s 6d; same month last year £63 17s 6d.
