MAIN HIGHWAYS

ORDINA R Y MAINTENANCE. At yesterday's meeting of the Grey County Council, the County Engineer reported that the Main Highways Board had reduced its contribution towards the maintenance of the Highways for the current year by £505 (from £3250 to £2745), and the County’s contribution had been increased by £165 (from £415 to £580). The amount available for maintenance this year was £340 less than last year (£3665 last year, £3325 this year) ■ The estimated expenditure was £3905, being £3325 from the Board and £5BO from the County. Theer have been five big floods already this year, and the traffic has increased materially. Unless the Highway is to be allowed to deteriorate, an additional sum of £5OO will be required for- maintenance.
