HOKITIKA, Nov. 11

A vote was taken among the parents of children attending the State School as to the locale for the Hokitika annual excursion to be held early in February, and Point Elizabeth received the large majority of votes. Greymouth, Mahinapua, and Omoto followed in that order.

The two days’ bazaar in aid of All Saints’ new church fund was commenced this afternoon, and was attended by a large number of people. The result promises to be very satisfactory. Short addresses were delivered by the Rev. J. Perkins, and the Mayor, the latter formally declaring the Bazaar open. Mr. Ruthven, employed in the erection of an accommodation house at Weheka, met with an accident by falling from the roof. Dr. Baird was sent for and he found the man was injured about the head. He was removed to the Westland Hospital yesterday. Cars can, now cross the Waiho by the bridge.

A sitting of the Arbitration Court before Justice Fraser and Messrs Wm. Scott (employers) and A. L. Monteith (workers) assessors, was held yesterday morning. Two cases were dealt with. Wroblefski (Mr. Elcock) v. The King (Mr. Park). This was a claim for compensation for the death of husband by accident. Liability of £750 and funeral expenses of £lB 10/- were admitted by the Crown. The item in dispute was £2/10/- for the grave. Judgment was given for £750 and funeral expenses £2l. Mr. Elcock asked that the payment be made to the widow, but His Honor ruled that the money be left in charge of the Public Trustee, who will arrange the apportionment of it. The other case was Lillian J. Rawlings (Mr. Murdoch) v. J. C. Malfroy & Co., (Mr. Kitchingham and Mr. Thomas) a claim for £312 compensation for the death of her brother Arthur, killed by an accident at Arahura on April 24. Claimant produced evidence to the effect that her brother had promised her nine or ten years ago to pay her £1 per week for life. This he did till his death. She had five children and her husband was in poor health. She had received £75 from the estate, and £4O more was' to come from it. His Honor announced that the Court found for £195, less £ll5 received from the estate leaving £BO. Judgment was therefore given for £BO, with Counsel’s fee £B/8/-, and witnesses’ according to Magistrate’s Court scale.
