Mrs Lumsden and daughter (Mrs Smith), who have been on holidays Here, returned by yesterday’s express to Christchurch. Mrs W. Southard left for Christchurch on a holiday visit. The Bag Day recently held on behalf of the Bowling Club was a huge success, with the result that capital is available to proceed with the enlargement of their pavilion, which is a long-felt want of the local bowlers. The punters o'f this district are busy picking the winners foT the forthcoming meeting of the Greymouth Trotting Club, at which this district will be well represented. Mrs Pattinson, wife of Constable Pattinson, Christchurch, is on holiday visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs J. B. Douglas, Runanga. The State miners recently purchased a picture plant and commenced showing pictures last Sunday night. It will be run under the State Miners’ Union, which is a step in the right direction, for the welfare of the town, as they are giving'the proceeds of the Sunday night pictures in aid of the sick members of the township. The proceeds on Tuesday nights will be for the renovating of their hall. After they have renovated the hall, etc., all proceeds will then go to the benevolent fund, which is badly needed in this town for people in need. All work is being done by the executive of the State Miners Union free gratis. They have also the orchestra of this town playing for theii pictures, comprising four instruments. The venture proved to be a big advantage to the picture patrons of this town, for on the opening night, the hall was packed to its utmost, and the same on Tuesday night, which gives the Union Executive confidence in the new venture they have undertaken. , Football patrons are still able to see another' match before the season closes, which will be between West Coast and Buller, and should prove a most’ interesting game. If all goes •well this township will be deserted on that day, which speaks well for the Leagueites of this town. 4 very enjoyable evening .was spent at’the residence of Mr and Mrs Shaw, of Dunollie, last Wednesday.
