SYDNEY, October 20. • Fire destroyed two sections of the Colonial Combing, Spinning and Weaving Company’s huge works at Botany. The damage totalled £15,000. LOCAL INDUSTRIES. ; SYDNEY, October 20. Tthe New South Wales Assembly passed the Preference Bill. Premier Lang stated that the Greater- Sydney Bill, including a drastic preference clause applying to the City Council, would be introduced as soon as possible. RACING BOATS ON FIRE. MELBOURNE, October 21., Fire destroyed the boatshedsof several rowing clubs on the Yarra River. A number of racing craft- and the equipment of the teams which will compete at- the Henley Regatta on Saturday were destroyed. The chibs affected are Hawthorne, Essendon, Footscrav, Albert Park, Richmond, and Melbourne. The damage amounts to many thousands sterling. It is reported that the regatta will? be held, if boats can be secured from the Public Schools. . ■
