OMANA ASHORE

ON AND OFF ROCKS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 15. The secretary to the General Post Office received the following advice at 8.19 to-day from Superintendent, Auckland .Radio Station:“6 a.m. —Captain Hammond, manager of the Northern Steamship Company reports the H&rbour Board have advice from the Tiri Lighthouse that che small coastal steamer Omana is ashore on the N.W. end of Tiri Island. The vessel carries no wireless, but the Clansman, a wireless signaller ship, is standing by. The Omana is not leaking. A small steamer is being despatched with 1 towing gear immediately. Have requested the Clansman to keep watch continuously for the time being.”

Further advice received from the same source states: “10.25 a.m. The following was received from the Clansman: ‘Omana off the rocks; now steaming for Auckland undar her own steam.’ ”
