A. G. Bignell, Chairman of the Wanganui Harbour Board, to-night vigorously denounced the attitude of the Wellington Harbour Board towards the secondary ports. Referring to the recent Wellington statements decrying the practice of direct shipping to the minor ports, he saftl that such remarks were pure propaganda. Figures that showed; the benefits to the local producers and importers through direct shipments to Wanganui were quoted. It was pointed out that the cost of transhipping cargo from Wellington to Wanganui, plus the material saving effected by direct shipments through Wanganui, represented approximately £182,000 for a period of 21 months.
