NEW MOTORING RECORDS. LONDON, October 7.
The spectacle of Parry Thomas roaring round Erooklands at two miles a minute hour after hour in a successful endeavour to remote the records-.won by France, thrilled hundreds. After six hours he left the car, considerably fatigued, having broken three records, viz., the 500 miles, by ssec.; the 1500 kilometres by 6sec. ; and also the three hours’ record by a margin of seconds.

A Bill, providing for a compromise settlement 'of the Hohenzollern claims, contains a paragraph under which Prussia places Homburg Castle and Park at the disposal of - the former Kaiser during his lifetime as a residence for the Imperial couple, they so desire. SCIENTISTS’ CLAIMS. . BERLIN, October 8.
Two professors have succeeded in extracting helium from hydrogen by a process requiring the smallest quantity of gas to effect the conversion. They also claim to have established that there are five hundred billionths of a gramme of radium per gramme of, helium. On this deduction, the age of •'i meteorite is computed at six hundred million years. Sufficient data has’been ascertained to enable an accurate computation of the- age of geological strata.
NEW JAPANESE LOAN. - TOKIO, Oct. 7.
The Associated Banks here announce an agreement with London for the flotation of six million sterling’s worth of Tokio Municipal Reconstruction Bonds. The news' was negatively received here. Many commercial and financial people regard the terms, namely, 5g per cent., and as too high. The agreement will, however, be approved. Three million sterling is required to redeem the matured Reconstruction issue. The balance'will be used for reconstruction, and, in this connection, there is much criticism. ANGLO-GERMAN TRADE. LONDON, Oct.'B. The week-end meeting ,of German and British industrialists . and financiers will take place at “Broadlands,” the palatial Hampshire home of Mr Ashley, the Minister of Transport, whis acting purely in the capacity of host, and not as a representative of the Government. The Germans ar-
rive to-day., •: The British delegates include Sir Robert Horne, who will preside, and Sir Alax Aluspratt (President' of’the Federation of British Industries). The coal, electrical; and textile industries will also be represented.
