WASHINGTON, Oct. 7

Itt Hon. .L G. Coates called on President Coolidge, and he also had an interview with Air Kellog. U.S.A. Secretary of State. A dinner was given in. the Aew Zealand Premier s honour at the British Embassy V -'g M. G. «ulton (Minister Plenipotentiary) in the absence of the Ambassador*, &ir Rsme Howard. z , Mr Coates, in an inteiview, said that immediately upon his arrival in America he found everywhere th« friendliest feelings for New Zealand, American business men not only commenting upon the good trade relations already existing with the dominions. but being anxious to be informed of the directions in which they could be improved. The people of the United States felt that America was linked up with Britain througn their alliance in the war, and through Ihe band of a common language, which was a common basis for . legal and political institutions. Mr Coates pointed out concerning trade, that he had’ informed American business men that New Zealand alreadv bought three times as much from the United States a$ the latter purchased from New Zealand, and it rather looked asif the next move was up to the United 'States.
