SHOP ASSISTANTS
CLAIM FOR MORE WAGES. The Westland Retail Shop Assistants’ Union of Workers has submitted a claim to their employers, for an increased rate of wages, shorter hours, and other general conditions.
The flowing are the main details of the wages claimed : —Departmental managers and manageresses, £7 10s; senior assistants, males £5 10s, females £3 10s; (juniors to be paid at .proportionate rates); head or only storeman, £5 10s ; storemen, packers, drivers, £5 per week. nours of work.-—Forty-four hours to constitute a full week’s work. Each employee, on the completion of each year’s service, shall receive fourteen working days’ holiday on full pay. . Under the present award, senior assistants are paid, males £4 ss; females £2 ss, departmental managers, contrfTTug three or more assistants, are paid, males £4 15s; females, £2 15s. Each employee is entitled to one full working week’s holiday on full pay, per year, and the working week is 48 hours, with 44 hours for women.
