SUNDAY PICTURES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A letter appeared in your issue of the 15th. inst., under the heading of “Miners’ Pictures.” It was very interesting, so much so, that I began to consider under what system the advertised Sunday picture benefits are run in Greymouth, and, considering that these benefits ar«* supported by the public in the way

of a fixed price for admission, I, as one of the public, hold the right to ask who are the benefits run for, and the amount received. Before writing this letter I made careful inquiries in regard to-the benefits, and was informed that they were run for tne Wharf Labourers’ Union Sick bund. It would be interesting to know how much this organisation receives from such entertainments. Why is everything kept in the dark ? Surely the public have a right to know? Even if Mr Beban cannot, or will not, enlighten the public on the matter, it is up to the local Wharf Union to at least place its cards on the table of publicity, and-let it be known to an

what is behind this so-called Sick Fund, and the reason for advancing the cost of admission to the benefits from a silver coin collection to an illegal price of one shilling, adults, and sixpence, children. I am etc., P. SHERMAN. Blaketown.
