BULLER NOTES
SUPREME COURT SITTINGS
(Special to “Star.”)
WESTPORT, Sept. 15. His Honor, Mr. Justice Adams, has been occupied on Monday and Tuesday hearing the appeal case Dove v. Morganti, in which the former appealed against the decision of the Warden recently over the Seddonville mining litigation. The evidence was chiefly on the same lines as in the Lower Court. His Honor heard lengthy legal argument which had not terminated last night. SCHOOL COMMITTEE The Westport School Committee last night, decided again to make an urgent appeal to the Education Board for the conversion of the old engineering room into a class room to relieve the congestion in the infant classes. BULLER HOSPITAL At the Buller Hospital Board meeting last night a letter was received from the secretary of the Hospital Boards’ Association, recommending the adoption of the practice of charging for the day of admission, also the day of discharge, and advising a fixed charge. The Board decided to charge for the day of admission only, with a fee of one guinea. SOCCER MATCH The Soccer team to meet Nelson at Westport on Saturday for the Peter Dawson Cup, were practically the same which lifted the trophy from Canterbury and secured the Emms Shield from Nelson, with the exception that Trotter (Denniston), replaces Orman (Millerton). The match is creating a big stir in mining districts where soccer has secured a good hold. RUGBY UNION The Buller Rugby Union last evening granted permission to the Mokihinui senior team to tour Nelson, the Star Senior team to play Reefton, and Ngakawau juniors to travel to the Coast. The Runanga League team applied for use of the Square on Sept. 18. The action of the secretary in replying that the ground had been granted to the Soccer Association for Nelson v. Buller Dawson Cup game was endorsed. A request from the Soccer Association for permission to use the Square on October 2, to play Marlborough for the Emms Shield was granted. President Bradley was appointed to represent the Union on Diamond Jubilee Committee. It was decided to make a further application to the West Coast Union for payment of ten pounds expenses incurred by Buller players travelling to Greymouth last August for the New South Wales combined representative match.
