BRIGHTER GREYMOUTH.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Anent this evening’s meeting, allow me to offer a reminder that, in connection with the previous community effort during "Shopping Week,” there were various differences of opinion, and several letters of criticism appeared against that campaign. I remember one writer said that he would be prepared to take his coat off in connection with a “later and more apropriate” community effort. It was also suggested, if not stated, that the previous effort was too cliquey, and not fully representative. To-night, then, is the opportunity for a correction of any diversities, and for genuine well-wishers to the prosperity of the town to show their zeal in suggestions for its advancement. No doubt there will be criticisms following on this meeting too. But would it not be better for any who are likely to have criticisms to offer, to do so at the meeting to-night. Lt is not a mere “bigger business” meeting. All sections and every aspect of the social and industrial life of the community are expected to be represented. The members of the Press are particularly invited, and I trust the some fruitful arrangements may be made, and that for once we may have a real community effort. It might also be an opportunity for the Beautifying Committee to get in a bit of propaganda and offers of community, work in brightening up dull places. —I am, etc., I.N.
