REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.)

REEFTON, June 21.

The body of the late William B.' Campbell was ' interred on Sunday afteyriprin in the Suburban Cenietery, a ’ few'dntimate friends being present. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Mr" Kirk. ; The Tnangahua Silver Band under Conductor K Elliston rendered a musical programme in Broadway on Saturday night. The public gathered in .quite large numbers and they riiuch enjoyed the music.

A radio demonstration was given in 'the ’ Theatre Royal on Friday evening, and a large number availed thenw.myes of the - opportunity of Fearing a loiid speaker. Owing to weather conditions the demonstration Was indistinct .aaid someone in the locality had started a generator set. Tl’e items were clearly, heard ■on the stage, but m the back of the hall they were at timee indistinct. Dunedin and Christchurch were clearly picked up, but Brisbane gave very little volume QWipg to ■ the blanketting effect of dlitside disturbances. Mr Alleyway, of Christchurch, was in charge of the'.se.t .

' The hew bridge over the Inangahua Jyiyer’ at/ Inangahua Junction is completed and open for traffic. me bridge, itself is a fine structure and reflects'credit on. Mr M. Lyons, who has been in charge of the work. The southern approach embankment has yet -to be dchie, but in the meantime: a plank and timber structure is being-used. Tenders for the bank are/, how 1, being invited by the Public •Works Department: . Telephone ‘ communication With Reeltdii-is' again exercising the minds of -tfib heiitlets in the Mai-uia district, more ..especially the residents of Spring’s Junction. The present method or way, via Murchison and

Lyell is worse than useless as when co^nm unication is obtained, the users can scarcely hear one another. A recent" canvass of the Manila district resulted in pretty weil every resident signifying their intention of subscribing, provided the line is constructed to R.eeftoii. The Alexandei\ River Reefs Mining Company, are also intending to construct a telephone, line to Alexander Reef, and should the Reefton to Maruia line eventuate, it will mean that they will only have to construct miles to connect, instead of 11 miles to link up with Waiuta, and this latter fact should have some weight with the Telegraph Department when selecting the route for tiie wire. The full list of successes at the Manawatu A. and P. Society’s Winter Show at Palmerston North, of the Golden Coast Co-operative Dairy Company, Reefton, were:—Box butter, salted, suitable for export, open to all factories in New Zealand.—• Golden Coast, 93 points, tied tor

Cleavei-, are proud of their achievement and the results speak well for the quality of the product of the local concern especially when it is considered tha in some classes the number'of- er tries were very large, and were froi Ihe best factories in the Dominion,
