NEWS AND NOTES. Nominations for the .Greyinouth and Reefton Jockey Club’s Easter Meetings close to-night at 9 o’clock-

Acceptances for Kumura close on Monday night, at 10 o’clock. Trainers J. Stewart and J. Jennings will have a busy time through the Easter, as they have big teams to work. Although Commendation won at the Rangitikei Meeting he gave a lot of trouble at the barrier and delayed the start for twelve minutes. However, he had no trouble in winning. Carnot may be a good winner during the Easter meetings It is reported that Luke Wilson intends to set up as a trainer in Victoria. No doubt the success attained by other New Zeatland trainers will soon enable him to get a good string together.

Although F. D. Jones has a poor team at the begining of the season he is now winning a good share of the races.

At Riccarton on Thursday morning, Glentruin did not seem to be extended to cover six furlongs in 1.16 3-5, finishing gamely. She covered the last three furlongs in 38sec. This wa stlie best trial of the morning.

All watches were_.on Count Cavour, who, starting from the seven furlong peg,, comfortably traversed the distance in 1.31 3-5, the time of the last six furlongs being 1.18. The Great Autumn Handicap favourite finished full of running, and undoubtedly is in great heart. His usual pilot, F. C. Porter, was in the saddle. The consistent aptitude of Sir George Clifford, in choosing appropriate names for his two-year-olds, is again revealed in the following nomenclature bestowed on the last batch from Stonyhurst, which are now being handled by H. and A. CuttsFrench Leave, chestnut filly, by Autumnus— Flitaway; Sudden Storm, chestnut filly by Autumnus—Helter Skelter; Broadmoor, bay colt by Panmure— Heatherbrae; Scramble, bay filly by Panmure —Scrimmage.
