“Why is it that, when an order- for' maintenance is made against these men in favour of.their wives and children, they suddenly become ill and get out of work?” was a question raised by Mr F.. K. Hunt, S.M., at Auckland when dealing with a number of maintenance: matters at the Police Court. “Here is’ this man, he breaks his wrist a week after the order is made, while in theprevious case the husband said he had been laid up for three weeks,” added the Magistrate. ‘‘When you get ill andcannot, keep up your payments, why : don’t yoii notify the Court and matters can be adjusted, but some of you get out of work, then come up here, have your order reduced and then return to work.”
