Followers of Fred Christmas’s stable had a good day on Saturday when he lead in two winners and a second at Banks Peninsula Para showed consistent form at Nelson by winning the big race on Friday and second on Saturday. Travelling by motor to Nelson did not affect Velocity or Mabon’s Day, as they each won a race besides minoi- place money. Jennings had bad luck with his. team as Picanniny had to be left at Inangahua Junction through getting knocked about in, a motor triick and Prince Ferouz could not be started at the meeting. Alpha Plus. is booked for a trip to the Wellington and Hawera meetings this month. Hariy Gaskill is taking Satin Princess to Manawatu meeting on Wednesday. It is not often that this mentor travels so far afield. Jingal, who has been trained tor some time by J. J. Kennerley is now an inmate of W. J. Tomkmson’s stable at Addington. The three-year-old gelding, Actor, has started work with a view to being able to show how he can go at the late autumn fixtures.

Nelson Ata continues to do good work at Addington. The young trotter has possibly not raced up to expectations this season, but he is improving in manners and with his undoubted speed will be prominent in future events. While working rai a Sydney track recently, the New Zealand bred mare Armillary, by ' Clarenceaux ironi Charmilia, tried to run through an open gate. She crashed into a post and was so badly injured tKat she had to be destroyed. Prior to

going to . Sydney Armillary was trained at Riccarton by J. B. Pearson and proved herself a smart galloper. , The American bred pacer, ' Jack Potts, who went off colour during his visit to Auckland at Christmas time and was consequently, spelled, has again commenced work under Jarden’s care at Yaldhurst. Jarden, it is understood, contemplates a trip to America in the near future. Epistle has been racing well ■ this season, and yesterday at Dannevirke she added another stake to her

credit. She is by Polydamon— Communique, and in her ten starts this season has won seven races, and been second on another occasion. J. H. Jefferd’s team at Dannevirke were all scratched for their second day’s engagements before the appearance of the weights. Their forward running was a feature of the first day’s racing, and they are all in good trim for more important engagements during the next few weeks. Rapine and Star Stranger will probably race at Napier Park. Pedro Pronto appears to be quite sound again and has resumed work at Discoverer Lodge. Other members of J. J. Kennerley’s team in solid work are Roicole, Eight Ever, First Fashion, Charles Dixie, Dixie’s Pride and Spring Note. .. Melbourne papers now to hand' bring details of the race for the Caulfield Futurity Stakes, in which the Zitng-lish-bred horse, Top Gallant “registered a sensational victory. Top Gallant, it is said, had shown his party -a great trial prior to the race, and he was backed with such force that he was sent out favourite. Top Gallant displayed such a dash of pace that he had the whole field in trouble before the straight was

reached, and, as he was eased up over the last furlong, the time recorded for the .seven furlongs (Im 25£s) is termed “marvellous.” Top Gallant’s runaway win of one of the most valuable classic races of the Australian turf when carrying a iolb penalty will long be remembered, remarks a Melbourne journal.
