At Palm Beach'to-day, Miss Elizabeth Ryan won the Women’s Singles .Tennis Championship of Florida, defeating her lellow Californian, Miss Mary Brown, 6/4, 6/0. BOXING. (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, March 5. The Boxing Association to-night decided to lodge an appeal with the Appeal Board against the decision of the New Zealand ■ Council in awarding the Murray-Purdy fight to Wellington. The Association upheld the Secretary in his action, and considered the language in his letter could not be taken exception to. ATHLETICS. - WELLINGTON, March 6. Rose’s recent performances have greatly impressed Scholz. “I was mystified,” he said, “when Rose came away and won with such ease. He does not impress one witn having much speed, and that is what puzzles me so. He always seems to have something in reserve, and that would get the best of any man it is his knack of increasing his pace without any apparent effort that ties one up. On his form to-day, l.e would make the best of. them sit up.” Scholz does not think Rose is a match for Nurmi, but considers flat if put into proper hands there is no saying what he couhl do and a match over three miles with Ritola, the Finn, would be a wonderful sight.
