(Our 1 Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, March 6. Hokitika school children, to the number of 4G, ' left by this morning’s express lor rhe Dunedin Exhibition, arriving there on Monday night. They will return to Hokitika on Saturday next, thus having three days at the Exhibition. The excursion is under the care of the Rector (Mr. E. Partridge) and Mrs. Dale. Miss Wallace and Mr. Smith are also. assisting. Another, batch from Kanierr and country districts leaves in a fortnight. The Revell Street firebell tolled an alarm about 12.30 yesterday, and it was found the cause was an incipient lire in T. Robinson and Son’s Cordial Factory. -A. defective chimney had caused a fire to start in the top storey. This, however; was discovered by the proprietors and’ extinguished by them before any material damage was done, or before the Brigade arrived. With the approach of the County elections; there are rumours of a nu- > merous field of candidates for local body honours. .. ■ Mr. A. Keller left tv-day for Dunedin. The Supreme Court sittings are not looked forward to with much'pleasure by those called up for the juries, and who have to curtail their visit to the Exhibition.' Several are in this position. ' ’ Preparations are being made to hold the annual chrysanthemum fehow here. The date will be either May 12 or 19. Seeing that the old place of holding the show has been destroyed by fire (All Saints’ Sunday School), the Soldiers’ Hall has been selected as the most suitable hall. /
