NOT A FIRE SALE

Owing to the total destruction of the grandstand and its contents at Victoria Park yesterday, the Greymouth Trotting Club Is unilble to conduct a fire sale. The ladies of Greymouth, during recent years, have learned to associate the sound of the firebell with big bargains to be offered as a sequel. Unwilling to disappoint the hundreds of keen shoppers in the town and surrounding districts, AlcGruer’s, Ltd., the leading drapers, have decided to fill the breach, and to hold a monster half-price sale, for a limited time. Every article in every department of AlcGruer’s big store is available for purchase at half-price. The loss involved is being totally disregarded by the firm, as room must be made for heavy winter shipments to arrive at a early’ date. All goods will be despatched rail and post free during this great sale, and cpuntry orders will receive just the same careful attention as those customers who are able to attend personally. Tile sale will commence to-morrow (Saturday), and the prices (advertised elsewhere) are such that the goods will be cleared out- as fast as the flames cleared out the contents of the grandstand at the Park yesterday. It is a well-known fact Jhat AlcGruer’s sales abound in honest-to-goodness bargains, and the firm is making arrangements to cope with'the usual rush, of shoppers to-morrow morning. , The business done during “Shopping AVeek” will, it is expected, easily be eclipsed, and-those who desire the biggest bargains are advised to rush to AlcGruer’s to-morrow as quickly as the Fire Brigade responds to the clang of the firebell.—A.D.
