ROSS, January 29. The Picnic Committee met to receive the balance sheet of the picnic. The receipts totalled £2O 12s, while the expenditure amounted to £l4 19s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £5 12s 2d. It was resolved that of.this sum £2 10s should be devoted to the expenses of the schools’ excursion, which is planned, in conjunction with the Hokitika schools, for Wednesday, February 3. A sports committee meeting was held in the Coronation Hall on Thursday. The** Mayor, Mr S. P. Evans, presided. The secretary (Mr A .W. Peebles) presented the bal-ance-sheet of the previous sports meeting. This showed a credit balance of £26. The secretary was unanimously voted £5 5s in recognition '■ of his services on that occasion. He thanked the committee, and declared his intention of handing a portion of the gift to the Council to form the nucleus of a crockery fund for the Totara Hall. All present formed/ themselves into a committee for the ensuing, year, with Mr Evans as presi-. dent, and Mr Peebles secretary and treasurer. It. was resolved that, a sports meeting should be held on Easter Tuesday, April 6, and that prizes totalling £lOO in value should bo offered. A programme committee, consisting of Messrs W. O. Jones, J. Rocfiford, F. Carter, and J. Walton, was elected, with instructions to submit a programme, to a further meeting of the committee on Saturday, February 6. At the meeting of the Ross Medical Association, there was a fair attendance.. The Mayor presided. The secretary presented the annual report and balance sheet for the period ending December 31, 1925. The receipts (£413 2s Id) were as follow: —Members’'subscriptions, £5O 10s; Patients’ repayments, £64 7s 6d ; from Westport Hospital Board, £lBO 19s 4d ; -Collections, £7 10s 6d; proceeds of euchre tournaments, £lO9 14s 9d. The expenditure (£392 17s 2d) included : —To Board for subsidy, £lOO ; medical attention, £223 13s ; car hire (for conveying patients to Hokitika), £4B ss; credit balance, £6l. The doctor paid 35 visits to patients in Ross, ’ and 17 patients, were conveyed to the doctor by car.lt was resolved
that £lO 10s be voted to the secretary in recognition of work already done by him, and that an honorarium of a similar amount should be attached to the duties of secretary for every ensuing year. The secretary moved that the financial year end for all subscribers on December 31, instead of 12 months from date of entry as heretofore, and thus the book-keeping would be simplified. This was carried, and it was further decided that, while the annual fee of 10s per annum be retained, those who joined during - the final six months of the year be charged 5s only, while those who joined during the first six months' should be charged the full year’s subscription. It was decided that members be asked to take notice that patients in arrears with repayments beyond 30 days will not be eligible for further e medical attention until- the debt has been liquidated. The Mayor congratulated the association on the success of its year’s operations, and hoped that members would do their utmost to widen the circle of its benefits.
