DOMINION. CHAMPIONSHIPS (Per Press Association.) i \ NAPIER, January 24. The New Zealand Swimming Championships Were commenced in the Napier Municipal Baths on Saturday '"night, before a very Idrge attendance of Spectators; the whole available space being occupied! Comjietitors, in satisfactory numbers, attended from all parts of New Zealand. Very keen interest was taken in the swimming, which in practically all events was of a high standard. The 100 yards men’s championship final .provided a great race, in which N. Dowsett (Wanganui) not only defeated the holder of the record time and the championship (Adamson); but" clipped two-fifths of a second off the record. In the 75yds intermediate girls’ breaststroke Miss J. Whyman (Wanganui) swam a splendid race and equalled the record. The intermediate boys’ 220yds. was won in good style by G. Brldsoh (Auckland), who covered the distance in three-fifths of a second d'Ver the record time. The detailed results are as follow: 100yds. Men’s Championship.—First Heat: A. Adamson (Auckland) 1, D. Lindsay (Canterbury) 2, L. Fairgray (Auckland) 3. Won by two feet. Time 59 1-5 secs. Second Heat: N. Dawsett (Wanganui) 1, D. Sutherland (Canterbury) 2, J. Cameron (Wellington) 3. Won easily by five yards. Time 59 2-ssecs. Final: Dawsett 1, Adamson 2, Fairgray 3. Won by half a yard. Time 58 3-5. 100yds. Ladies’ Championship.—Miss E. Stockley (Auckland) 1, Miss J. Bell (Auckland) 2, Miss P. Page (Auckland) 3. Won by three yards.’ Time: 67secs. 75yds Intermediate Girls’ Breaststroke Championship.—Miss Ji. Whyman (Wanganui) 1, Miss L. Water Polo Championship.—First Round: Hawke’s Bay beat Wellington by three goals to two. NEW WORLD’S RECORDS NEW YORK, Jan. 24. Three world records held by Johnny Weismuller, were broken at Buffalo last evening. Walter Alufer of Cincinnati clipped two-fifths of a second off the hundred yards back-stroke, which he swam in 1.5, then without stopping, he went a hundred ’metres, further in I.IIJ, compared with Weismuller 1.12 3-5. Walter Spence, of Brooklyn, swam a hundred yards, breast stroke, in 1.9 2-5, establishing a new record by a full second.
