ANIMAL PROTECTION

LARGE ESTATE BEQUEATHED

'Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

LONDON, January 23.

Mrs. Sarah Love-Gtrady, has left £ 500,000 for the protection of animals and birds. She was an octogenarian, resident of Crowborough. Mrs. LoveGrady left the sum of £lOO,OOO, which is the sixth part of her estate, to an institution devoted to the care of dogs, cats and pet ponies.

Details of the will show that the residue of her estate is to be devoted to the foundation of “The Beaumont Animals Benevolent Society.” Beaumont was the testator’s maiden name.

The will stipulates that the Society shall acquire an island, or islands, and, failing this, a suitable locality on the mainland, to provide a refuge reservation for all animals, birds', and other creatures not human, where they must be immune from molestation and destruction by man. The Society may establish and endow hospitals and homes for animals in- Britain, provided that no vivisectionist is associated with the management.

. This means that practically the entire fortune of the deceased, totalling half a million, will be devoted to animal protection.
