SHIPPING NOTES.

The Orepuki leaves Lyttelton to-day and Nelson on Saturday, for Westport and Greymoutli with general cargo. The Kaitoa leaves Onehunga to-mor-row for Nelson and Coast, with general

cargo. ■ The Titoki is due on Saturday from Wellington, via Nelson and Westport, with general cargo. After discharge she loads coal for Onakaka.

The Regulus is due to-night from Wanganui direct to load coal for Picton and Wanganui. >. The Opua is due to-morrow to load for Petone.

The Kaimai sails from Wellington at the end of the week. She loads coal, timber and general cargo and return. The Kaituna arrived from Wellington this morning, and loads coal and timber for Gisborne and AucklandShe will probably proceed hence, via Westport, to complete. The Karori is expected to sail from Wellington on Saturday for> this port, to load coal, timber and general cargo for Wellington. The Ngakuta is scheduled to load general cargo at Dunedin to-day. She sails at Timaru and Westport en route to this port, and loads coal on arrival here for Bluff and Dunedin.

SURREY’S CARGO

AUCKLAND, January 20. The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that a general average of five per cent, has been struck on the cargo of the steamer Surrey, which arrives at Auckland from London to-morrow night. The Surrey, which is owned by the Federal Steam Navigation Company, was concerned in a collision in the River Thames on November 25. TALUNE NOT SUNK WAIROA, January 20. A Gisborne Press report that the old steamer Talune was sunk at Waikokoanu for a breakwater is incorrect. The vessel ws hauled close to the

shore this afternoon and will be sunk early on Monday morning. AUCKLAND DISPUTE. AUCKLAND, January 20. The Northern Company’s steamer Matangi did not sail to-night for Tauranga, owing to the seamen and firemen refusing to take her to 'sea until a sailor they objected, to had been dismissed. This the company refused to do. The vessel’s departure has-been postponed until to-morrow morning. The sailor, who it is desired should be dismissed has been in the Northern Company for a long time, the last three years on the Matangi. He is reported to be one of the most efficient members of the crew. It is understood • the men state that he was a volunteer seamen in the Northern Company during the coastal seamen’s strike three years ago.

ULIMAROA’S CREW

A full crew was secured without difficulty to-day for the steamer Uliinaroa, which sails on Friday.

THE YEAR’S TONNAGE.

LONDON, January 20.

Eighty-five vessels, of an aggregate of 1,293,000 tons gross, were launched in 1925, according to Lloyd’s Annual Survey. Of these 49g per cent., or 1,085,000 tons, were launched, in the British Isles. Germany comes second with 406,000 tons, tlaly 142,000, and United States 129,000. Japan is eighth with 56,000 tons. The decrease in the output is 54,000 tons compared with 1924, the decrease in the British Isles being 355,000. Thus the increase abroad is 301,000 tons. The tonnage launched in Britain for owners abroad was 178,000.
