HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.)

HOKITIKA, January 21. Mr C. A. P. Boyle, formerly schoolmaster at Ross, now of Bay of Plenty, went through to Ross to spend a. few days with old friends. The Dunedin Exhibition has had its effect upon the tourist traffic this year, although a good number are coming and going. The through train from Christchurch has resulted in numerous holiday-makers brining their own cars. It is common to see a queue of cars of visitors outside hotels. It is reported that another motor accident took place on the Kokatahi Road a few days ao, when a motor lorry ran into the County road grader. Mr Dale, the roadman, was injured and the grader damaged. The beach has been much frequented lately, but the shark scare has had the effect of keeping swimmers from venturing past the surf. Letters from the Boy Scouts in Dunedin show they are having a glorious time, as well as a strenuous one. They are being feted and shown the sights. One gentleman (Mr Sargood) entertained 1200 of them, providing a bottle of cordial for each, besides buns and cake. The Hokitika troop expect to return on Monday next.
