ENTHUSIASM WINS CUP.

WELLINGTON, January 20.

The Wellington Rading Club’s Summer Carnival opened to-day in beautiful weather, with a large attendance, on a fast track. The totalisator investments were £48,309, as against £48,485| on the corresponding day last year. The Welington Cup was won by Enthusiasm aftei- a fast-run race, the time, 2min 31sec, equalling the record. Limited sprang a surprise in the Wellington Stakes, beating a hot favourite in Lady Cavendish by a head in an exciting finish. The Telegraph. Handicap was won easily by Cawnpore in the good time of lmin An inquiry was held into crossing by Enthusiasm coming into the straight in the Cup race. It was decided that the horse ran away from the whip. The rider, McCarten, was cautioned, but otherwise he was given the benefit of the doubt.
