CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 2. The first, of.the. Christchurch wool sales for this season was held to-day, when 18,000 bales were offered. ,The bulk waq, halfbred wool, and light in condition,, but was. well, grown.: There was .a full bench of buyers representing all wool-using countries. u The sale lacked animation, and yalues were down on the recent North Island sale by a halfpenny to a penny per lb. The Continental section secured the heavier end of the catalogue, American and Bradford buying sparingly. The local mills bid strongly for superfine wools, both fleeces and pieces, and the local fellmongers also operated briskly for pieces and scouring lots. The market generally was accepted, the passings being less than. 12 per cent. . ..... Top prices were: Merino 22Jd per lb; Corriedale 21d; halfbred 23d; tlir ( ee-auarter bred 181 d, crossbred 16d, merino pieces 19d, halfrbred pieces 18id, crossbred crutchings lljd, bellies 16d and locks 9Jd. These figures, however, are about 2d im advance of the figures secured for otlier good wools in the various grades. The range of values was Merino super, 20d to 221 d, medium 18d to 19i(d' superior 13d to 17d; Corriedale super 19Jd to 21d, medium 17R1 to 19d., inferior 13£d to, 16J, fine halfbred, super 19d to 23d., medium to 18S, inferior 13Jd to IGJd; medium halfbred,;super c lBd to 20d, medium to 171 d, inferior 12£d to 15d; Coarse, halfbred, super 17d to 19d, medium 14Jd to 16Jd, inferior IOJd to 14d; threrf-quarterbred, super 151 to ISld, medium 131 d to 151 d, inferior 10|d to 13d; medium crossbred, super 133 d to 16d, medium 121 d to 131 d, inferior 10£d to 12d; coarse crossbred, super 13d to 141 d, medium Hid to 123 d; .superior 9i to lid; first pieces 13d to 19d; second pieces 8d to 12d; locks 5d to 93d; bellies 8d to 16d; crutchings 5d to
