A movement is afoot to reconstruct the Australian Labour Party. A large number of Union leaders are launching a campaign in favour of selection by the unions, of all Parliamentary candidates.

BUSH FIRE

An extensive bush fire in the Forbes district swept a. large area and partly destroyed Cadow station. Several other stations are threatened by the fire, which has caused extensive damage and is still raging.

DEPORTATION ORDERS. MELBOURNE, December 2. At a- stop-work meeting the Victorian seamen carried - a motion condemning the attitude of the Sydney branch in declaring against a strike in tire event of the deportation oi Walsh and Johannsen, and that of the section of the industrial movement which made similar decisions. Tho meeting urged the industrial move ment to take effective action to combat the deportation of tho Union leaders.

Although the militants secured control of the seamen’s meeting, it is unlikely that any action will be taken by the union against the deportation of Walsh and Johannsen.

ADELAIDE, December 2. A meeting of the Watersiders’ Federation decided against any stoppage of work in connection with the deportations.
