CHRISTCHURCH, December 2. The season’s first wool sale opened to day, when 18,000 bales were, catalogued and oi'fered to full benches. The sale lacked animation and prices showed a tendency to ease for crossbreds. Compared w:th North Island sales the figures were lower by gd. Compared with the first sale a year ago, which made records for ualfbred wool, prices were practically cut in half. . The coarser grades did not suffer so much. Kalian Pastures, on« of t'he fancy clips of Canterbury, brought 42 3-4 d last year ; this morning, the same wool, though lighter in condition made the top price of the sale.
