X-RAY MARTYR

LONDON, November 30

The death has occurred' of the pioneer X-ray researcher of the London Hospital, Reginald Blackall, who, ; underwent fifteen operations, including the removal of both hands, in consequence of X-Ray dermatitis. Scientists declare that there is no more striking case of martyrdom to science than Dr. Reginald Blackall’s. He suffered greatly for twenty years, but was invariably cheerful. One of liis colleagues lost his arms and another his life, but Dr. Blackall remaiined steadfast in the knowledge gained that the result of his martyrdom rendered ray operator's in the London Hospital immune from risk. His heroism was recognised by annuities of £75 from, the Carnegie trust anl £285 from the hospital, while his life was insured as provision for his widow, who has been a devoted nurse throughout their entire married life.
