STORM IN ITALY

ENORMOUS DAMAGE CAUSED

MANY LIVES LOST

ROME, November. 29.

A tremendous storm of wind aiid. rain swept Southern Italy, wrecking nouses and harbours. Swollen rivers burst their banks flooding the countryside, destroying crops, drowning .itle and demolishing railways, A tidal wave submerged the coast between Naples and Sicily, destroying shipping. T'he inhabitants were supriised by the fury of the storm, andmany were killed and injured by flyim debris.

Cantanzaro reports the worst damage. The crops were totally destroyed. The sea wall was smashed at Naples and the ships broke, from their moorings, resulting in many collisions. The liner “President Garfield.” . was unable to enter the harbour. There were numerous fires in the city of Naples, and one whole city s in darkness owing to t'he destruction of the electric power cables. The full casualties and extent of the damage are not .yet known.

The sea invaded the land in Calabria for one hundred yards. It destroyed many villages, and orange and olive plantations. The town of Bayliara was wiped out. Torrential ain flooded thousands of acres. Several persons have been drowned.

CYCLONE AT FEZ.

PARIS, November 30.

Advices from Casablanca state that a violent cyclone in Fez demolished five aeroplanes in the local aerodrome ; also a large hangar housing the big bombing planes, ten of which were damaged. In the Foreign Legion camp, five huts were smashed and three men killed and twenty injured. The damage is estimated at millions of francs. GREEK SHIPPING SUFFERS. ATHENS, November 30. A. violent storm is raging on the Greek coast. Several steamers 'nave been lost . The inland communications are interrupted.
