PRESS DELEGATES SYDNEY, Sept. 24.
The- Empire Press ' delegates have returned to Sydney after a tour of Northern New South Wales and Queensland.
TRAMWAY LOSSES. MELBOURNE/ September 26. Giving evidence before the' Arbitration Court, the Manager of the Melbourne Tramway Board said that the deficit on the tramway to June 30th last was £232,000. For the years 1923-24, the net revenue decreased bv £491,000- A surplus of £8862 in 1923 became a loss of £124,000 in 1924. He attributed this to motor ’bus competition.
STATE INSURANCE. SYDNEY, September 26.
The Parliamentaiy Labour caucus decided to pass legislation which will provide for tjie establishment of a Government insurance office, which will have power to carry 'on every class of insurance business, inclusive of life insurance. It was explained to the caucus that the prime object of the office would be tjie cheapening of insurance for'the community; hot revenue production. It’was' unofficially stated after the meeting, that the Minister assured the members of the Party that during the- present Parliament, - the Government would pass a Bill to make insurance a/State' monopoly. The caucus also'approved a bill to admit'women to the Legislative Council.
