HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent). The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present; The Mayor (Mr G. A. x'erry), Crs H. M. Coulson, Jas King, W. Jeffries, S. F. Orr, HBlank, n. T. Parry G. Heinz, A. R. Elcock. The Westland County Council wrote stating that an agreement had been arrived at with Mr AV. J. Jones for a gravel reserve at Koiterangi and asking lor Borough approval. The Westland Hospital Board wrote asking for the use of the Town Hall and upstairs rooms for use in cennection with the annual ball, also for permission to erect a temporary shelter. —Granted. W. Wilson write asking permission to connect with drain in Hamilton Street, from Savings Bank. —Referred to P. W. Committee. The Valuer-General forwarded the
Valuation Roll. Comments by Councillors on (he valuation went to show they were generally satisfied. W. O’Brien wrote stating that he is unable to take up the offal contract at the abattoirs—Deposit to be estreated. It was resolved to offer the contract to T. Staines, the next tenderer. E. W. Heenan and others, Beach Street, wrote asking that a sewer be constructed in . Beach Street, and asking that a lamp be erected at the Tear of the Union S.S. Coy’s office.— Referred to P.W. Committee. '
The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £5lB Is 2d, payments £504 4s fid, debit £319 12s, Credit Loan Account £BB9 14s 4d. Accounts amounting to £125 10s 3d were passed for payment. Cr Blank (chairman of the I’.W. Committee) and the Borough Overseer (Mr D. Mclver) reported fully on an inspection of the pipe line, revealing several, weaknesses in the line. The reading of the report resulted in a long informal discussion, during which Cr Orr gave some interesting data on water races and pipe lines etc. Crs Jeffries, Coulson and the' Mayor considered that an expert should be engaged to give an opiniwi un the pipe line and advise the Council. Cr Coulson moved to that effect, the motion being carried. The P.W. Committee recommended that the Council supply wafer to the Railway Department per meter at 1/3 per 1000 gallons. —Approved.
