AMATEURS V. PROFESSIONALS (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 9In the mateh Gentlemen of England terms Players, the Players declared after compiling 403 ruiis ■ for eight .vickets. The chief scorers were Saiidham 50, Parsons Hearne 103, and Kennedy (nut out) 59. The Gentlemen scored 412 fur * 9 wickets, the chief scorers being Calthorpe 63, Tennyson 69, Haigh JB, and Allen (not out) 93. A partnership between Allen and Haigh put! on 123 runs for the ninth wicket. LATER, Allen std Haig’s achievement in the Gentlemen v. Players’ match at- the Oval was the sensation of the week. The first wicket put on 113. Then fate took five wickets for 37. Tennyson brilliantly stopped the rot, hitting one six and nine fourers. When Haig icined Al ten, however, the Gentlemen required 137 to save the follow on. Both played with the greatest caution, though generally hitters, and refused to take Visks. There was a hurricane of cheering when the Players’ total was passed. Haig was snapped at the wicket when two short of the century, but Allen still has a chance to get a century.
