MONTH!# MEETTING
The Greymouth Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon, Mr W. 11. Kettle (President) presided, and the following were present: Alessjs AV. di.'Parfitt. J. McNaughton, t». Robertson, R. Al. Firth, and F. AKitchiffgham. , V .' A telegram was sent by the President; to the Buller Progress (.(ague, advising that Messrs Al. J. Fogarty and I. E.’’Coates, now in Wellington, would join the deputaton t > interview the Minister of Public Works regarding the Grey-Wes l pn t road.—His action was endorsed. Mr Robertson asked if the Chamber intended to go into the matter of the new railway tariffs. At other points action was being taken, and the local Chamber should interest itself in the matter. . It was decided to secure a copy of the schedule from the Department, so that the members.of the Chamber could examine them. The Nap er Chamber wrote requesting support for a resolution asking the Minister of Labour to consider the alter dion ot certain clauses in tae ‘•Wages Protection and Contractors Liens, . Act,” whereby, owing to the nonrfulfilment of a contract, by the contractors, the lien holders lose the protection supposed to be afforded by the’Act. It was decided that the Chamber agree to the proposal and advise the Minister accordingly.The Nelson Chamber of Commerce telegraphed requesting the support of the iGreymouth Chamber to their deput ttion to Wellington for ’he purpose of urging the completion of the NelsonWest Coast railway. The President, advised that he had instructed Air Fogarty, the Secretary, to join the deputation. —Confirmed. the Nelson Chamber again • telegraphed, thanking the Greymouth Chamber for its'co-operation and stating lit was/ not interviewing the Alm-, i ter this week, but would probably visit the West Coast and discuss the matter with the Grey Chamber’ in order jto get a proper basis for a deputation,. „ The Wellington Automobile ..Club wrote asking the support of the Chamber in securing a. Royal Commission for enqui’W into the expense of county council administration, and also to secure amendments to the Main Hirl 1 -/ ways Act tn‘give absolute power to the [Alton Highways Board to enforce the maintenance of County roads. Mr Kettle remarked- that the Grey County was not among those complained of,’ as it was recognised to be a we l ! run council, which was'doing excellent work, and had the fortune to have a highly capable engineer.
