BULLER NOTES

(Ou? Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, June 22. The Westport Fire Board held its annual meeting in the Town Hall last evening, there being present, Messrs J. H. Greenwood, J. Menzies, Grierson, Watkins, J. Scanlon, .and T. Shaw. Mr Greenwood was reelected chairman of the Board. A welcome was extended to the table to Messrs Scanlon and Watkins, who succeeded Messrs J. J. Archer and Cameron respectively as Government and Insurance companies representatives. The estimates- were considered and adopted- le was decided to go into matter of purchase of new hose for the Fire Engine. Tenders were received for the painting of the Fire Brigade Station and the Bell Tower, and that of Mr D. O’Neill, £lB, was accepted. Messrs Grierson and Watson, Fire Insurance companies’ representatives on the Westport Fire Board, arrived from Greymouth yesterday afternoon and attended the Fire Board meeting in the evening, and left later for Reefton in order to catch the overland express for Christchurch. Mr Broadwith, manager at Westport of Griffin and Smith’s wholesale establishment, and Mrs Broadwith, leave by the Komata this evening on holiday to Wellington. In St Andrew’s Manse, a kitchen tea was tendered io Miss ISlay Croy by Mrs Allan Thompson and Mrs Alex Miller. . There was a large attendance. Songs were sung by Mrs Beilby and Miss Tulloch and a piano solo was rendered by Mrs McWha. Two competitions were held, a flower competition, in. which the prize was won by Mrs Ballard; and a hidden citizen’s competition, in which the prize was won by Miss D. Mouatt. After tea, the gifts were opened up, consisting of a large variety of articles useful for the kitchen. Rev. A. Miller expressed high appreciation of Miss Croy’s good work in the choir, Sunday School and Bible Class, and assured her of the best wishes of a large circle of friends for her future happiness.
