KOKATAH 1-KOI'J ERANG f.
(Our Own Correspondent.)
KOKATAHI, June 16.
' Since.-the incOptioli bt thc KoHata...Kcitefa’ngi VVihiOr Sh-'W a lew years ligoj each succeeding M’.ow lias ecripsed t.ne other; and this is so with the 1920 Hhow. It is easily a record for entries and chss of exhibits, which includes the whole gamut'of lai in pioduets, The Kokatahi-Koiterangi Winter Show is not me product of a few days’ worn, but the result of the concentrated energy of men and women for a year. One has but to sAutiiiise the ‘‘distr-ct bays’' of Kokatahi and Koiteraugi to form an opinion of the extent of work involved in>rganising the Show. are ni.hiature 'shows in themselves. Yesterday was judging day. ' Neveftheless there wfis ti good attendance, which augurs well lor people s day (to-day). Wifth 701 entries of all kinds to arrange, the judging was late in COni])leting.’ A cuiwiy glance at tnj catalogue "shows at olice the important mart the woman plays in farm lue, for the gentler, sex were easily a majority in exhibitofir.’ An interesting collection was the exhibit of root crops by school children throughout "tne Coast, extending from Wataroa. llari Mari, Ross, Kokatahi, Koiteraugi, Blue. Spur, Hokitika, Kumafh JuneLon.- Camerons, Taylorville, Nelson Ul’cek. Ikamatua, Hukurei’e, and InchBpiinie, and included Carrots, mangels and turnips. These were truly a. fine display, and were the pride of Air Dalgliesh, the‘energetic fields inspector, who is endeavouring’ to foster interest in the growing of root and other crops by the younger generation. As previously stated, the ■’bays’,’ oi farm j rbduce contained a multitude of pro,, ducts, viz., meat, home cookery, pre«civcsx 'field Ciops, products of the ih'ise (ileer, duck, rabbit, etc.), fruit, home-made cheese, .sk.ns, poultry, lime, coal (from'Mount Camelback). In the Koiteraugi bay was io lie seen <•;. glass jar containing frogs. This bay was adorned with giant fronds of king fern. Koiteraugi were' the ptoiid winders of thei'd'.strict' bay this year; up fill this' year Kokatahi has teen unbeaten.- Ail H. A. .Boddington' provided the only bay in the fartneis’ section, •and his was- also a wonderful collection of things produced on a farm. The poultry section was well filled, particularly the utility classes of Leghorns and Orpingtons. Game also were represented, as well as ducks. Air Aa B. Spiers (Mayor of Kuriiara) was the judge in this section. Farm produce... as might be expected from tin.; nature of the Show, was a well filled section; Mr A. J. Palmer, of Rotomanir, was the judge. Fruit, possibly, was weak, although there were several exhibits. Air Seymour was the judge in the ham and bacon classes, in which there were many exhibitors. All's IL L. Michel judged the home-made pre. servys, pickles, etc., while Air G. R. ILn'ker (Greymouth) was judge of home cookery, which was a. lug Section indeed. Mrs L'r(|uhart (Hokitika) was judge in the schools au 1 faueywotk classes, while Air Hughes judged the paintings. It is quite evident (hat there are no drones on the committea of the . Show, of which the ejliee of sccrcxary must be anything but a sinecure, Air H. A. Boddiiigton has jilted thix position with distinction since the start, and Air T. O'Neil has been President. For root crops, the prizes f>.r -swedes were obtained by Air W. Begg (Totara Flat) firsit. Winter and Speedy' (Ratahu), and A. J. Palmer (Roto’i’.anu)?Following are the.awards : — AVhite Leghorn.—R.
