THEFT AT FIRE
BRIGADE. MEN ARRESTED.

A recent fire in Vivian Street has had rather an unexpected sequel in the arrest of two fire brigadesmen for. theft. _ On April 21,. a fire broke out in the premises of Edward. George MacDonald, unholsterfer, of 186, Vivian Street. After the outbreak, the disappearance of a quantity w moquette satin anc/ ticking, valued at approximately £l4, could "not be accounted for, and the matter was placed in the hands of the,, police. ’ j. i- o Inquiries were made by Detective Jan-old and Mcl.ennan, and to-day Bernard Dynan, aged 32, and Alec Milne, 24, members of the Central Fire Brigade, were arrested in connec- . tion' with the offence. WELLINGTON, May 25. , Two fire brigadesmen, Alec Milne, 24, and Bernard Dynan, 32, were charged at the Court- to-day with the theft of goods valued at £l/15/- from the premises of Edward McDonald, during the recent fire. They pleaded guilty and were remanded for sentence pending the ->robation officer’s report. After the fire, accused were left in charge of the premises; subsequently it was found that goods, valued at £l3 1/6, were missing, but goods .were traced to their possession valued at £1 is/-- ' , . , Counsel for accused said that ‘the men saw some material lying on the floor wet and damaged. They both took it to use as covering for shelves in their room at the fire station. It was a case of sudden temptation; there wag no secrecy about the affair. .
