PUBLIC NOTZES. ROYAL COMMISSION ON UNIVERSITY EDUCATION. JT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor-General has appointed Sir Harry Rudolf Reichel, Kt., and F. Tate, Esq., M.A., C.M.G., as a Commission oix University Education. The Order of Reference is as follows : — x (1) The present facilities fox- University Education in Npw Zealaxxd. (2) The working of the present organisation of the University of New Zealand, its affiliated Colleges and recognised Professional Schools. (3) The constitution of the University Senate, together with the question' of whether special interests such as Agriculture, Industry aufil Commerce should be ..represented 'on the Senate. (4) The question of whethex’ the pre-. sent system of foux - Colleges.' federated, under the *New Zealand University, is satisfactory, or is capable of improvement. In particular, whethex’ - each of the present four University Colleges should become a separate University, and, if so, under what conditions. , (5) The standard and scope of the degree and othex* examinations conducted by the University. (6) The. question of whether- University examinations should be conducted by internal or- external -. examiners, or by a combination of both. (7) The question of accrediting students fox' entrance to the University in lieu of the Matriculation examination. (8) The relation of University Education to that provided in Secondary and Technical Schools. (9) The provision that should Ke made in New Zealand for University teaching and research. (10) Any other matters concerning higher education which the Commissioners would feel worthy of report to, the Government. The Commission will commence the taking of evidence, approximately, as follows: — Wellington—June 18 and July 28. Auckland—June 29. Christchurch—July 8. Dunedin —July 17. Persons desiring to give evidence should notify their intention of so doing to the Secretary of the University Commission, c/o Education Department, Wellington, not later than the 10th JUNE, indicating at the same time the centre at which they can attend. Each witness will be informed of the approximate date on which his evidence will be heard, together- with the place and houi- of meeting. Persons who oannot attend the sitlings of the Commission may, if they so desire, forward a written statement to the Secretary of the Commission. JNO. CAUGHLEY, Directot- of Education. BOUNTY OF GREY. SPECIAL ORDER. IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a Special Meeting of the Grey County Council, held on Thursday, the 23rd day of April, 1925, the following resolution was passed, and will be submitted fox* confirmatioxx at a Special Meeting of the said Council, to be held on WEDNESDAY, the 27th day of May, 1925, at 12 noon, at the County Chambers, Greymouth:— “That a Special Loan of £1350 be raised for the purpose of erecti/ig, for occupation by workers employed ox- resident in the County of Grey, buildings suitable for workers’ dwellings. The said sum £1350 to be repaid by forty consecutive half-yearly payments of £33 15s, each payable on the Ist day of December, 1925, the first day of the months of June and December in each of the years from and including the year 1926 to and including the yeax- 1944, and on Ihe Ist day of June 1945. The rate interest shall be six pounds (£6) per centum per annum, payable half-yearly on the Ist day of June and the Ist day of December in each year during the currency of the said loan. The interest and principal shall be paid at the National Bank of New Zealand, at Greymouth, free of exchange oxany other deduction. The security for the said loan shall be a special rate sufficient to provide interest and half-yearly inpayments on the said loan in accordance with the provisions of Section 20. sub-section (4) of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.” Dated at Greyinouth this 2nd day of May, 1925.
