* z ‘ z INCREASED $0 £l5O. ' . When the question, of the Mayor’s honorarium came before the (first meeting of the.’ newly-elected, Borough Council, 'held Hast■ tevening*, it; was decided that the previous Amount of £lOO per anpum was not adequate in view of the demands made upon* the Mayoral pocket, and an increase, to £l5O pel* annum was approved. Cr J. Q’Brien said that for a town of the si£e of Greymouth, such a small amount as £lOO was inadequate. It restricted the position to comparatively wealthy people. He- moved that the honorarium be increased to £l5O. Cr. G. R. Harker seconded the motion, saying that the Mayoress also d did good work. “Can. we not discuss the matter in /•committee?” asked Cr F. Perotti, that the amount be £125. Cr Kitchingham also supported Cr Perotti’s amendment, although he considered that the Mayoral duties were well worth £450. He hoped that the Mayor would regard .the £25 as a token of the Council’s good wishes. Thi? Mayor (Mr W/H. Parfitt) said that he would not'vote on the question. He did not ask for an increase and would <do his bast for the council either way. . Cr H. F.' Doqgan, in supporting the motion, said that no member of the community would say that £l5O was too much. Even then the Mayor woujd be out of pocket. \ Cr Perotti, with the consent of his Withdrew his amendment, and the motion was passed, the Mayor returning thanks.
