The Board of Governors of Westport Technical High School had at its meeting on Thursday evening the two candidates from which the final selection of director was to be made. Mr Jas. Watson 8.A.. Assistant/Master of Wanganui Technical College and Mr T. Martin, MA-, B,Sc., Director of Masterton Technical School. After hearing addresses from both candidates and replies to questions, also an address by Mr G. H. Sothard on the aims of education in Westport, the Board proceeded to the election, and, while considering that either candidate would-admirably fill the position, recognised that a choice had Jo be made and chose Mr Watson, lhe successful candidate has had over 20 years training experience, including three years pupil teacher in South Canterbury, two years at Christchurch Training College, 2j years in the Secondary Department of Waimate District High School, 4J> years as assistant at Thames High School, and Bg years Senior Assistant at Wanganui Technical College. He took his B.A. in mathematics, latin, English, education, mental science ,economics, receiving special mention in math<3natics and latin. Rangamaru Croquet Club celebrated the close of the season by having afternoon tea at Robertson’s State tea rooms yesterday afternoon. Prizes won during the season were awarded. At the Labour Social last evening the euchre prizes were won as follow:—Lady’s, Mrs Treloar 1, Mrs Head 2. Gents, Mr A. Bradley 1, Mr G. Hartigan 2. Mrs Jenkins won the 45’s. A beautiful cake, donated by Mrs Treloar, was won by Miss Callaghan. At the Denniston householders meeting, Mr Sindley reported that since he had taken over the school the attendance had increased from 116 to 140.
