DIRECT CARGO SERVICE (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN. April 30. In response to the agitation of Sputh Island importers, a new direct cargo service to South Island ports will be inaugurated next month, when the steamers of the C. and D. New Zealand Shipping Co., and the Shaw Savill and Albion Line, will make regular calls at Dunedin, Lyttelton and Timaru. ’• I ' BUILDING CONTRACTS (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) • LONDON, April 30. The Blue Star Shipping Line have received tenders for eight 12,000 tons refrigerated meat ships from British, Dutch and German shipbuilders. The “Shipbuilders’ and Shipping Record” understands that the lowest Continental price is from £lB,OOO to £20,000 per steamer below the British tender, but it says that efforts are being made to retain the contracts for Britain.
