Running at Los Angeles,' Nurmi, the Finn broke the thirty-year-old record for the lg miles distance, which he ran in six minutes forty-two and two fifths seconds, or four seconds better than the record of Tommy Coiieff. Nurmi also bettered the !.£ mile and the two thousand yards world marks in the same race, Willie Plant, the United States walking champion made a new world’s record for the twenty-five thousand metre distance ,in ten minutes 39 secs. The former record was ten minutes 47secs, made by Frigerio, in Italy. TENNIS. SYDNEY, April 30. The tennis player. J. O. Anderson, has sailed fur England. He will participate in the Wimbledon championships prior to his departure for America,. where he takes part in the Davis Cup play. ( It is announced that a New South Wales team to four New' Zealand leaves Sydney on August 14. Probably ten matches will be played in the Dominion. BOWLING. Mr W. Heughan (the Scottish singer) and Mr Kennedy visited the Greymouth Bowling Club’s green yesterday, and played a pairs match against Messrs Steer and Blackwood. The latter two won an enjoyable game.
