MAY DAY SPORTS
MEETING AT BLACKBALI; At Blackball to-day,' being May Day, a sports meeting is being held. A large number of competitors: nominated and good sport was witnessed. The prizes, offered were valuable and keeply competed for. The times were good in nearly all raced; The fact that the 100 yards evdhtS" Were handicapped on a basis of eight yards gave all a fair chance and for the 220 yards the limit was 10 yards and for the 440 yards;event 32 yards. Both train and motor services- were well patronised. Up to the time of the ''Star” going to Press, the results received were as follow:— 100 Yards Footrace- -First heat: E. Lamont 1, McEnaney 2, W. Walls 3. Time llsecs. ' Second heat: B. Clarke 1, de Freatus 2, A. Mason 3., Time 11 l-ssecs. Before running the final, Mr Galbraith, president of the Timber Workers’ Union, addressed the gathering on the aims and objects of May Day. He traced the history, and declared the necessity of keeping the ddy'as an in-' ternational holiday?’ —
