ADDINGTON MARKETS. (Special to “Star.”) CHRISTCHURCH, April 29. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on to-day’s Addington sales: — Fat Sheep—7A large yarding. Heaviest wethers' were slightly easier, and other sheep were on a par with last week’s rates, with the' exception of light ewes, which were Is a head dearer 5 best wethers 42/6 to 4.6/, prime 38/ to 41/, mqdium 36/ to 38/, best ewes 36/ to' 39/1, prime 30/ to 33/, medium 28/ to 30/, light 24/ to 26/. Fat Lamb Sr—A small yarding, with keen sale, equal to 12 l-4d over all. 'Store Sheep—A smaller yarding an'' better sale all round;. good four, six and eight-tooth crossbreds to 41/1/ forward half-bred wethers 32/ to 34/9, small half-bred wether lambs 18/6 to 20/, better sqris to 25/, good ewe lambs 30/ to 33/, rape ewes up to 21/. Fat Cattle—Another over-flowing entry comprising 560-head, and owing to- the continued heavy yarding, low<' values ruled at to-day’s all classes of beef being down about 15/ per head on last week’s prices; best quality beef to 36/, good priftie 32/ to 35/ per I.olb. The National Mortgage; and Agency Co., Ltd., report: — s Fat Cattle—Again' a yery heavy yarding and valhes receded considerably. The quality was very mediocre. Large numbers of-'cows came forward and values were down 20/ per-head; prime’ steer beef 30/ to 35/ per lOOlbs, secondary 27/6 'to 31/, light and unfinished 20/ to 25/, and rough down to 15/ per lOOlbs. f 1 \ Fat sheep sold well. About the same number came forward as last, week. Ewes were a little easier, and wethers a shade dearer. v Fat lambs were forward in about the same numbers, and prices were a fraction better than at last week. The quality is going off. / Store sheep were forward in good numbers, for this time of the year. A good sale right through, except for old done ewes, which were hard to quit.
Messrs J. R. Brown and Co., report:— , Store Sheep.—A good yarding, with brisk sale right through. Good conditioned sheep, all classes, sold fully up to last sale’s rates. Fat Sheep.—The market was . a shade better than last • week’s; average butphers’ wethers 42/- to 45/-, ewea 32/- to 35/-, extra good lots two shillings better. Fat Lambs.—The Market was easier; at 12id for prime quality. 2500 were yarded, and there was a good sale. Fat Cattle. —Very heavy cattle were easier, but prime quality, about 800 pounds, sold at 37/- to 38/- per hundred. A large number of old cows ;■ went .for potting at about 15/- per lOOlbs. Store Cattle—A fairly large yarding, b.ut a poor lot. A big line is beMng trucked to the coast for special safe. The general feeling is that beef will improve during the next few months. . . 1 1 Our special correspondent reports: There was a small entry of fat pigs. It included about 100-head from the West Coast, but the quality was not up to that of previous consignments from the Coast. The demand was good. Values were: Choppers, £2 10/to £6 15/-; light baconers, £4 to £4 10/-; heavy baconers, £4 15/- to £5 5/- extra heavy baconers to £5 15/-; average price per lb., 6 3-4 d to 7 3-4 d; light porkers, £2 8/- to £2 15/-; heavy porkers, £3 to £3 10/-; extra heavy porkers to £3 15/-, average price per lb. 8d to 9d. There was a large entry of store pigs, totalling 210 head. A large number of buyers were present. The sale opened on a par with late rates, but towards the end values, improved a little, especially in the case of yyeaners and small stores. Values were: Small weaners, 8/- to 12/-; better sorts, 15/to 20/-; small stores, <22/- to 30/-; medium stores, 35/- to 40/-; large stores. 48/-. 1
