ADDINGTON MARKETS. (Special to “Star.”) CHRISTCHURCH, March 25. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on to-day’s Addington sales: — ‘ Fat Sheep’: A large yarding, mostly ewes, which were in better demand. Fat wethers were dull of sale, with the exception of the primest butchers quality, for which there was a fair demand. Fat Lambs: /I medium yarding. Prime lambs sold on a basis of 14d overall; light and unfinished sorts were less keenly competed for. Store sheep: Another very heavy yarding, with a large proportion ot North Island ewes. Owing to the pro. longed dry spell, the market was otmsiderably easier all round, especially for travel-stained sorts, which were down from 2/- to 3/- per head; twotooth Romney cross ewes, good, 38/- to 42/-, medium 32/. to 34/-, four, six and eight tooth 31/ to 34/-, best lambs 25/to 28/-, medium 30/- to 22/-, small down to 15/-, forward wethers 30/- to 33/-, medium 27/. to 28/6, small 25/-. Fat Cattle : Again a large yarding, comprising 490 head, with a large proportion of cow beef. Die sale was satisfactory for all prime cattle which sold at 20/- ner head better than at last week. Other classes were dull of sale, and showed no improvement.

The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., report: — 490 head of fat cattle were yarded, compared with 519 last week; 70 per cent of the entry comprised bullocks and cows of inferior quality. The sale opened at an advance on last week s and on the better classes was 20/- in advance of last week. Prime quality made 36/- mediupi 34/6. good cow 34/light 27/6, ro«gh down to 15/- per 100 lbs. Fat Sheep : An average penning of ten races. Values were on an .average equal to last week's, varying , little throughout the sale ; extra wethers 47/-, prime 52/6, medium 35/9, light 34/-, extra ewes 38/3, prime 37/-, medium 32/6, light 29/-. Another heavy yarding of store sheep though not unite as heavy as in previous weeks. Values opened on a par with last week’s, and continued to be solid right throughout for all classes. ■ Messrs J. R. Brown and Co. report: Fat cattle : A good average yarding in regard to numbers, but a scarcity of prime ox beef. The market improved ‘Her 'the latter quality fully 20/- a head, average prices ruling 36/- to 38/per lOOlbs. Young cow and'good heifer beef sold at 32/- to 35/- per JOOlbs. Fat sheep : A good yarding, prices being on a par with last week’s values. No change to report. Fat Lambs: Best quality sold up to 12J>d per lb; second quality llgd per lb. Store Sheep : A yarding of about 13.000 all told, chiefly ewes. Considering the dry weather the sale was exceptionally good, and good prices ruled right through the sale, despite the fact that reports from all districts show that rain is badly wanted.

ports:— There was a good sized entry of fat pigs. Baconers were a little weaker than at the previous sale, but porkers sold firmly at late rates. Values were: Choppers £3 to £6/10/, light baconers £3/15/- to £4, heavy baconers £4/10/- to £5, extra heavy baconers to £5/5/-, average price per lb. 6d to 73 d; light porkers £2 8/- to £2/15/, heavy porkers £2 17/6 to £3/3/-, average price per lb 7£d to BJd. There was a medium entry of store pigs, and except in the case of one or two outstanding lots, prices were decidedly easier than at last week. Sales were hard to make. Values were: Weaners 10/- to 14/-, extra good sorts to 20/-, small store 21/to 25/-, medium stores 30/- to 38/-, large stores 40/- to 45/-, extra good large stores to 46/-, sows in pig £3 15/- to £4/10/-.
