MENTAL HOSPITAL

ANNUAL PICNIC. '

After many postponements on account of bad weather, the Seaview patients’ picnic was held on Saturday. The conditions were all that could be desired. Preceded by the institution’s truck laden with good things, the party (120) set out in three lorries —a very merry company. Donations of a perishable nature, which came in when the picnic was first mooted, had, of necessity, to be consumed soon after receipt. They were much appreciated as extras ’for tea over severa/ lights. The party proceeded to Mr Graham’s fields at Kokatahi, where a good dinner was provided, and aftar a short interval for games and for the quenching of thirst's engendered thereby, the lorries were requisitioned for a run to Koiterangi. Thence back to tea and home in the cool of the evening. Undoubtedly this was the most successful picnic that has been held —even after taking into account the many postponements and the final “rush.” So far from slackening in their generosity,, the people of Hokitika district and Greymouth made a considerable advance on their previous contributions; a pleasant feature being the increasing number of donors, proving that the public is as much alive to the welfare of its mentally ill as to that of those suffering from any other disability. The Medical Superintendent/-o'? the Mental Hospital wishes to acknowledge with thanks the undermentioned donations towards the patients’ picnic and to reoord his appreciation of the increasing recognition of his annual appeal for assistance: —Donations in cash —Mrs Allen, Mr J.
